Dogs in the work place

Princess_Oliver_Lady_Lifetimewithdogs

Today is take your dog to work day. That means dogs around the country get the chance to be with their owners all day instead of watching their owners leave them behind. Neither my mother or I took our dogs to work today but if we did I think I know how they would act and what they would do.

Princess – This girl would be so excited to go anywhere with me. When I take her on adventures with me she is the happiest dog in the world. When I am about to leave the house she gives me a look that kills. If she could talk she would say, “You leaving me??? All alone? What if you never come back?”

Now, if I worked in an office building and brought her with me she would be the best behaved out of the pack. But she would probably not let me or anyone get any work done. Why? Because she wants all the attention. She would sit on your lap and demand to get pet. Now if I forced her to stay on the floor she would probably curl up under the desk and take a nap. Once its lunch time and she will probably get up and start walking around trying to figure out who has the tastiest snack for her. Beware, she wont bark or jump on you for food but will force you to give you something with her big brown demanding eyes.

Lady – This sweet girl would probably be nervous at first going to a work place. She would probably think its the vet’s office and she doesn’t like that place at all. But once she realizes its not a bad place she would probably warm up. She may even smile. Especially, if she smells food. Lady lives for food and her goal in life is to eat all she can. I can imagine if I brought her to work she would sneak around behind my back and look for anything she can get her mouth on. Anyone who leaves food on their desk will find it gone with Lady around. But rub Lady under her ears and neck and she will sit there and look at you with the most loving eyes.

Oliver – He would be the cutest boy in the office. To any men in the office, beware he may steal your woman’s heart. Oliver would make everyone smile with his adorable face and spunky personality. Everyone would want to pet him but no one would be able to get near him. Why? Because he is pretty glued to my mother. The only way he will start trusting you is if you have food. Yes, another food lover is the family. He will do all kinds of tricks for food, Don’t try to trick him though because he is very smart. VERY SMART! So smart that you have to watch where you step because he will mark his territory on everything letting everyone know everything belongs to him. But you wont be able to get mad at him because he is blessed with the cutest face in the world.

So, I hope everyone who took their dogs to work today had fun and created some memories with them. How did your dog’s react? Did they beg for food like Lady, demand attention like Princess or create smiles like Oliver?

5 ways to keep your dog safe this summer

Summer is a great time for you and your dogs to get out there and enjoy the weather. I know I enjoy hiking with my dogs and going to the dog park a lot more during the Summer season. Just as much fun Summer brings it also comes with dangers to your dogs. Here is a list of ways to keep your dogs safe this Summer so you can have the best summer possible.

1. Keep dogs out of hot cars
People make the mistake of leaving their dogs in the car to just run an errand or two. Parked cars are deadly to dogs in the summer. When it is 90 degrees outside a parked car’s temperature can reach up to 160 degrees. Don’t take your dog along with you during the summer if you just plan on leaving him in the car.

2. Always have water for your dogs
Inside and outside during Summer season dogs should always have access to cool fresh water. It helps to keep them hydrated during the hot days and helps avoid heat stroke. Ice cubes are also a good way to keep your dog hydrated, plus a lot of dogs seem to enjoy playing with them.

3. Walk your dogs in the cooler hours
With the sun beaming high in the sky during the day it is best to walk your dog early in the morning or near dark. Too much excessive exercise during the hot weather can cause your dog to get heat stroke. Also, dogs can get sunburned, so make sure if you are going to be out in the sun to apply sunblock on your dog.  Shade is important too!

4. Watch out for hot surfaces
Sidewalks and streets get really hot in the summer. If you put your hand on the sidewalk and it hurts in a few seconds your dog will feel the same pain. The pads on your dogs feet can get burned so be considerate if you are out with your dog and make sure if you stop there is grass or dirt your dog can stand on. You dont wont your dogs cute feet to get burned.

5. Keep the parasites away
Fleas, ticks, mites and other parasites thrive during the summer season. Its always a good idea to use some kind of prevenative on your dog. Last thing you need is to fight an infestation on your dog that can spread to you. Also, when your dogs come inside it is always a good idea to check your dogs fur for any signs of moving pests.

Now get out there and enjoy Summer!

Summer tanning

Its not easy for a dog to get a good tan. There are always distractions like squirrels, motorcycles and humans that get in the way. But once a dog wants to look good for summer they will let nothing bother them and will end up with a beautiful tan that will be eye catching.
